NEW YORK CITY, NY-Amazing single mom living in the Upper West Side is looking for a FULL-TIME NANNY to help care for her 18-year-old son with Down Syndrome. He has had the same caretaker since he was an infant who primarily cares for him from 8am-6pm Monday-Friday, but they are looking for a second caregiver for occasional weekends, evenings and overnights when mom or the daytime nanny have commitments. Mom is willing to guarantee pay for 40 hours per week for the nanny to be available between 6-10pm on weeknights and two weekends per month (20 hours total), even though they may not actually be called in to work those hours. Nanny will be paid overtime should they exceed working the 40 hours for which they are guaranteed pay per week. Flexibility is a must for this fluid schedule! There will be occasional overnights (approx. one weeknight per month) as well as travel 1-2 weeks per year to places such as the Caribbean, Jersey Shore and skiing destinations. They have a second home in the Hudson Valley they travel to 3 weekends per month and would love for the nanny to come along on occasion. Duties outside of childcare include light meal prep and laundry for the child. He has recently been experiencing anxiety and has been medicated to help him cope. He is nonverbal but is easy to understand and communicate with. The ideal candidate has experience working with persons with special needs such as Down Syndrome, anxiety, autism, nonverbal, etc.  Nanny must be comfortable helping him with activities of daily living (he is in a diaper at night due to the recent anxiety diagnosis). He loves to swim (must be a strong swimmer!), play ball, and music. Nanny will work alongside mom, who is very hands on and their daytime nanny to learn about child’s personality and needs. In the beginning this would require working alongside the current nanny from 4-6pm weekdays for a few weeks as well as a few weekends alongside mom to transition to being with him alone. Pay is open DOE. Start date is ASAP!
