Prominent family of five looking for a PROFESSIONAL COLLEGE- EDUCATED NANNY/ HOUSEHOLD ASSISTANT to join their household. They have three children (ages 8-15 years) who are the center of the parents' world.  They are looking for a LIVE-IN (or local LIVE-OUT) candidate to join their liberal, laid-back and loving home.  Both parents have very demanding jobs, and at least half of the weeks, one parent is traveling for an average of 2 days. At a high level, they need a full-charge nanny who is capable of doing most of the things a stay-at-home mom with a busy husband would do, if that mom had the support of a daily housekeeper. This includes the “management” aspect of running a family – keeping track of things, thinking ahead, shopping, checking in, organizing playdates, activities, buying gifts, making holiday crafts, etc.; managing the family calendar and household management through a well-organized Google Drive system and email; teaching discipline, manners, self-care, care of belongings, family chores, pet care, self-sufficiency, and respect; teaching conflict resolution skills to children; and of course the loving, playful side of things, snuggling, getting on the floor with toys, telling stories, and connecting emotionally. When traveling, she should plan, organize, pack, and may be with kids from morning until night. They would ideally like you to  embrace the opportunity to see the world and explore new places while traveling with their family. They would like nanny to commit to 3-4 shorter (2-5 day) trips per year (typically long weekends, to ski in Tahoe or Utah or to attend conferences in other U.S. cities), and 1-2 longer trips of about two weeks each per year (East Coast or Europe or both in a typical year, possibly also a beach or ski vacation). Trips typically require longer hours, sometimes watching children from the time they wake until they go to sleep. Hours beyond the normal number of hours per week (including travel time) will be compensated, including overtime.

They are looking for someone who is highly intelligent and able to relate to highly intelligent children, who can communicate in “high bandwidth”—lots of information efficiently communicated in a clear and organized way, and who can “stay with” the kids through their complex conversations and ideas. At the same time, the candidates needs to be incredibly warm, loving, empathetic, and be amazingly good at “tuning in” to the kids emotionally, and making them always feel seen and understood, even if they are sad, misbehaving, or need space. They should never feel guilty about their feelings or feel they have to be perfect.  Ideal candidate is extremely engaging and interestd in the children. Someone who is intelligent, organized, and flexible, who can manage electronic communication and electronic to-do lists and online calendars to keep the household running smoothly is extremely important. Must have excellent skills at using Google Docs, online shopping, email communication, calendaring, and electronic tracking of household management are crucial. Nanny needs to be able to make decisions about household maintenance, communicate with contractors, and be proactive about fixing things, figuring things out, finding manuals online if needed, and anticipating problems.

MUST LOVE ANIMALS: They do have one lizard, one tortoise, three beautiful and inquisitive “fancy rats”, two bouncy guinea pigs, and nine free range chickens. Helping children with pet care is also part of the responsibility, including collecting eggs, refreshing water, creating and monitoring care checklists, following up when children forget pet care, etc.

Compensation and benefits package (including health) to be determined based on experience after consultation with nanny about her preferences and needs. Seven major holidays and ten days vacation time included, as well as 3 sick/personal days, with additional vacation days earned with each year.
